Metal Wall Art
There aren’t many places in your house where metal is necessary as far as décor: the sink, the stove, the springs in all the cushions, and the nails that hold up pictures and dirty socks…hey, we all have different tastes. In general, most of metallic objects in your home are usually items need to be metal. Try to imagine trying to cook on a plastic stove or sitting on couch filled with glass springs. Metal on its own can be part of your home’s interior design; if you’re just not digging faux-flower wreaths, wood letters or wall clings, there is always the option of adding some metal art to your home.
Some people might picture nailing a rusty license plate to their wall when I mention metal wall hangings…and if that’s your preference, then please don’t hesitate to use that idea for design purposes. If you aren’t aware, there are quite a few places (online) where you can find steel, iron, or aluminum wall decorations. Odd as it may seem to decorate with 
metal, I would definitely recommend trying it. While the standard wooden wall plaques and wall art decals can create some great styles, metal is something used much less often as a decorative tool and will unquestionably catch your eye and the eyes of guest.
Contemporary metal wall art can be painted or unpainted, flat or three-dimensional, and come in a variety of sizes to fit a range of wall dimensions. For example, if you really like Pepsi, you could probably craft a wall decoration out of sliced-up Pepsi cans that actually protrudes from the wall. If you’d prefer a piece of art with a little less breadth and a lower chance of being bumped into, you could have a mural or design painted on a sheet of aluminum (not the kind you wrap leftovers in). Forget the holly branches – deck the halls with some steel accents this season. Another great way to use metal in decorating is to hang metal words; yet another way to decorate with wall quotes. For outdoor metal wall art, you can always use steel or iron wall art.
Some websites specialize in wall décor and have sections dedicated totally to metal art, with both three-dimensional and wall-hugging selections. A great upside to metal wall appliqués is that they are not narrowed to just one type; you can find and purchase metal sculptures in modern or rustic styles. Have you ever been to a home with a country décor theme that had an old-fashioned plow or a vintage musket on the wall as part of the décor? These aren’t the only available choices if you’re aiming for country decor, of course. Just as with contemporary ideas, more country style options such as ‘welcome’ signs and cutesy anthropomorphic farm animals baking pies painted on metal plates are available alongside their modern counterparts.
If you do make your mind up to adorn your home with metal, keep a couple things in mind. Number one, that metal ornament is probably going to be the ‘main attraction’ in the room as far as décor, so try not to overload your walls with other decorations because it will probably make the décor feel overwhelming. If you’re using a small piece, feel free to have more than one together in a group…if you have a small steel dove over your couch, go get another one, or else that lone bird will just look like it’s lost on your wall. On the other hand, don’t overdo it – don’t have a whole flock of those doves stuck to your wall. Keep the number of small metal decorations to about two or three…just one will look too solitary, and more than a few appear chaotic.
Experiment with various placements of your metal wall hanging. See what it looks like in the middle of the room, the corners, or maybe a little off-center. Keep the ever-important ‘rule of thirds’ in mind when doing any kind of design – including interior design. Divide your wall into imaginary thirds and place the artwork in one of the thirds or on a ‘line’ dividing two of them. This all being said, metal is a very versatile and beautiful way of decorating your home; out there somewhere is a steel artwork or painting on an iron block that will prove to be the perfect complement to your house’s existing state of interior decoration.
Baby Nursery Decor
The scenario might look a bit like this…you’re a pregnant mom-to-be, and as each days passes by bringing you that much closer to bringing your child into the world, one of the many thoughts on your mind is what you want your baby’s room to look like. And since babies usually are not finicky about interior design, they will more than likely be content with whatever nursery decorations you choose, so long as you still feed them, hold them, and change their diapers when needed.
Nursery wall colors are almost always painted a light color, typically white or a light shade of pink, blue, or yellow. But this is just the ‘usual’ thing, just like how baby clothing is ‘usually’ in pastel shades, at least in American and many European cultures. There’s no need to follow the norm as far as baby room ideas – paint your infant daughter’s room bright purple if you want to. There are scientific studies that have found that bright colors can actually stimulate 
cerebral development. A different color scheme can be the difference between a traditional nursery and a unique one, so don’t rule out brighter colors as far as wall paint and decorations for your baby’s sleeping area.
Adding paintings to the walls is another lovely means of decorating your child’s room. Unfortunately, unless you’re good friends with an incredibly benevolent artist who will do this work for you at a discount, anticipate paying a lot of money for nursery murals. A five by four foot mural will put you back several hundred dollars. Such paintings are gorgeous and unique in any room, but since they are custom artwork and not some giant print you can buy endless copies of, they will cost you a lot. Decide if your budget will allow for such an addition if you really want to have one.
Baby room decoration does not need to be expensive. You might be able to find perfectly useable items at second-hand shops or on the internet that might need some minor repairs, like a dresser that needs some chips sanded out, or a thrift store crib with a scratch on it. As long as the items are safe to be used for your baby’s needs, hand-me-downs can be a great addition to your baby’s room. After all, caring for babies costs quite a bit of money as it is, so there is no shame in buying a couple recycled essentials in order to save money for more important things that your child will need later on.
A trendy form of interior decoration for all ages is the employment of wall stickers, or vinyl lettering. Baby nursery wall quotes and other decals are inexpensive, can stick to just about any surface, and come in a broad variety of themes. If you’d like to decorate your baby’s room with his or her name spelled out above the crib, there are decals for that. Or maybe you’d like some Disney characters for your kid’s bedroom. As your child gets older, their tastes will likely change, and all you have to do is peel those stickers off the wall when your little one decides he likes Bob the Builder instead of Mickey Mouse. Peeling a mural painting off the wall the wall isn’t so simple.
